Really lovely anniversary dinner and the service from Dee was exceptional. We had delicious king prawns for starter, steak for main and the desserts were wonderful. The only slight disappointment was that neither share plate (tomahawk steak and lamb shoulder) was available which we didn’t know until we ordered it. A really nice restaurant with a friendly and professional team.

Despite having made a booking when we arrived there was no table for us. We had to stand around waiting for them to clear a table. The young lady who attended to us was very pleasant and did apologise for the delay. We both had the king prawn salad to begin with and this was nice. My wife had the Snapper for main which was inedible, it was tough and not cooked through. She sent it back and did not reorder. I had the steak which was nice despite being well over cooked. By 8.30 whilst we were still eating the staff engaged in the clearing up process. moving furniture and setting tables ready for the following day. Nobody came near us again and I had to summon someone to bring us the bill. We have been going to the Fireplace Restaurant for years but sadly like so many restaurants in Australia the standard of service and quality of the food has taken a nosedive.

I have stayed at this hotel over 25 times. I never really wanted to try the restaurant as the reviews were mixed, and most hotel restaurant's are normally below par. Apart from been given a sub standard table and enquiring about others, the restaurant was fully booked. Ironically, or rather obviously those better tables were still empty when we left. I digress, The oysters were fresh and fantastic. For the main we opted for the Wagyu and the fillet steak. The steaks and peppercorn sauce were faultless and cooked to order. Unfortunately, the mash had a certain prepared warm up before serving taste and texture, which was shame, otherwise it would have been perfect main course. The desert of Sticky date pudding was exceptional. In summary, everything apart from the mash hit the mark. The service was attentive and efficient, and yes, I would return. In fact I did return a few days later. The service was terrible. The steak was still excellent. But, two grilled Prawns for $28? Bottom line $236 for 2. Second time $197 for 2

What a disappointing experience! To start they provide a rather limited menu and waited for us to decide on the lamb before telling us it was off. We must have waited 30 mins for starters and it was 50 before the mains appeared. They gave us a knife and fork to eat a bowl of fettuccine and nowhere to put the shells (why serve shellfish in their shells/ whole prawns in a pasta sauce?). The food was quite unremarkable (overcooked prawns, bland pasta, a bitterness to the oysters) and who knows where the smoky flavours got to that they promised. The amount of food provided was pretty miserable and left me still hungry after two courses, but as it had been an hour by then, we were no longer in the mood to wait around. Really, if you are going to charge premium prices you have to do a whole lot better than that.

Attended for dinner on a Tuesday night. We arrived about 25 minutes early and we seated easily. Ordered the eye fillet (medium) and the scotch fillet (rare) along with roast carrot and parsnips and the sauteed green vegetable sides. Vegetable sides were very nice. The eye filet was also well cooked and very tasty. The scotch fillet however was overcooked (for rare) and the quality of meat was not good (poor enough for me to tell the waiter). Finished off with the dark chocolate parfait which was very good as well. Overall a nice restaurant although possibly a little too pricey for what it is.
