I went in for a manicure and pedicure today.
Firstly, my pedicure was great - happy with the polish (white with different colour fluro French tips. Simple)
I got a full set of acrylic nails. I showed them three reference photos and they told me two of them they were able to do. I chose one and again confirmed they could do this. Yes, again.
The acrylic application was fine, happy with the shape.
The execution of the painting itself was not good, the coats were way too thick, they are lumpy and streaky. Which is highlighted even more because I got a matte coat. When he tried to do the feature nail, he firstly used blooming gel and an enormous amount of polish dotted on which was not blended at all. I asked him to take it off and please try to ombré it on and to blend it more. Instead of using a soft ombré sponge or an ombré brush he used a far too dense sponge with way too much polish. Ideally it needed to be done with pigment on a matte top coat then sealed again with matte… but they didn’t have pigment - and something that resembles the photo could have been done using the correct ombré technique. The ombré attempt was even worse than the blooming gel. So I asked him to remove it and put a nude colour on instead as by this stage I realised they were not able to do anything m like the design I wanted, and I was so frustrated and disappointed. The nude nail was also rushed, to thick, streaky and lumpy.
He also said that the design I wanted was ‘very hard to achieve’ - all nails except one were paintings a single colour… and one feature nail that was not a complicated design… as I said I had been assured they could do the design.
Telling me at the end of the service that you in fact cannot do the design and it was beyond your skill or you didn’t stock the products needed to do the design isn’t good enough.
If you can’t do a design please just let your client know straight up so that they can choose a different, simpler design. I was so surprised because they had good reviews and the photos of their previous work looked to be of a high standard. However today even a basic block polish wasn’t executed well.
I wanted to splurge and treat myself to having someone else do my nails for a change. Yet I’m now having to fix my own nails and I’m $100 poorer for the privilege.

This was the worst nail salon I’ve ever been to. I asked for French tip and sat down. As they were doing my nails I realised that the fake nail tip they glued on was the white french tip part and they just put a clear acrylic over top. They did not specify they were doing the French tip this way and not the normal painted French tip way. Made my fingers look super stubby and they did the nails shorter than I wanted. It was an outrageous price too!($90)
